At the heart of Gucci Cosmos is the Cabinet of Wonders, a 3D digital experience that showcases a constellation of archival pieces in a mesmerizing display. The collection can be described as comprising vital but lesser-known gems. There is Vigo’s ‘Storet’ cabinet, designed in 1994 and reissued by Acerbis in 2020. ‘We wanted something sexy, with a female point of view,’ Pelizzari says of the narrow cabinet with a stack of curved lacquered drawers. In the edit is Mario Bellini’s 1972 modular Le Mura Sofa for Tacchini and Nanda Vigo’s Storet cabinet for Acerbis, in Gucci’s signature red hue and presented against curving green walls, chosen by Gucci creative director Sabato De Sarno. The show transforms 180 Studios, at brutalist landmark 180 The Strand, into an immersive exploration of the house archive, curated by Italian fashion critic Maria Luisa Frisa to recall the celestial patterns found in constellations and time travel through the house’s past, present and future.One of several installations making up the Gucci Cosmos exhibition in London, the Cabinet of Wonders was a revolving masterpiece. A 2.8m cubed cabinet packed full of technology, its deep red high-end finish concealed doors and drawers that slowly slid open to reveal the Gucci treasures held inside.
